With Hip-Hop always striving to evolve, we forget to understand it's core. It wasn't always based on ritual dance moves and/or money-cash-hoes. Rapping was about self-expression, storytelling fused with clever wordplay, delivery and beats to make you nod your head yelling, 'That's that shit!'
Luckily, Everliven Sound helps remind us about the matter at hand. UK rap duo Cymarshall Law & Skit Slam bka Everliven Sound is back with Freedom II. Freedom II is a continuation from their 2008 album, Freedom [http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/freedom/id273923056]. The following artists featured in this album include: El Da Sensei, Hakim Green, C Rayz Walz, Stahhr and John Robinson.
GOOD GUY: With The Beatnikz producing the album, the rhyme over rhythm arrangement fits like goldilocks...'just right.' It's conscious rap reborn. Freedom II brings up issues such as hiphop culture, politics, struggle & empowerment. The chemistry between Cymarshall & Skit Slam is quite comparable to meth & red.
BAD GUY: If there's a Freedom III, I'd really like to hear more creativity in their rhymes. After listening the first few songs, their rap flows begin to sound the same and predictable.
A number of notable tracks: Elements feat. El Da Sensei, Come Correct and Don't Believe. Freedom II available June 22 on iTunes and Amazon.
